Queen City College was started by Ralph S. Payne. Payne, a noted barber and leading salon owner in Clarksville, Tennessee, was dissatisfied with the quality of education displayed by his new employees and realized the need for better vocational training. He founded Queen City Hair College on March 5, 1984.
His wife, Laura E. Payne, now a respected consultant in the up-and-coming field of esthetics, has served as chief administrator of QCC since its opening.
The school’s original location was 210 Franklin St. Five years later, QCC moved to 1191 Ft. Campbell Blvd. Further expansion required a move to our current location at 1594 Ft. Campbell Blvd.
Queen City Hair College became an affiliate of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Occupational Education Institutions, in December 1986.
Our name changed to Queen City College in May 1990.
In 1995, the Commission on Occupational Education Institutions split from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to become a freestanding accrediting agency known as the Council on Occupational Education.
Our professional affiliations include:
- National Hairdressers and Cosmetologist Association
- Tennessee Cosmetology School Owners Association
- Tennessee Association of Student Financial Aid Commissioners
- Council on Occupational Education
- Tennessee Educational Association of Veteran Program Administrators
- Teachers Educational Council
- American Association of Cosmetology Schools
At QCC, we enroll approximately 200 students in each calendar year. Queen City College, in its hiring, admission, instruction, and graduation policies, does not discriminate because of sex, race, age, creed, religion, financial status, country of origin, residence, or handicap.
Queen City College is dedicated to educating quality graduates who are able to meet both the present and future demand of the barber and beauty profession.
